As a membership based club, we cannot survive without the help of our members. In order to keep our program fees very reasonable, we ask that each member family volunteer for these activities:
Set Up / Tear Down
On the day before the swap and the evening of the last day of the swap we need people to move a large amount of equipment to and from the sales area. We receive thousands of items from ski retailers that need to be put in place before the swap and later return unsold items to the vendors. The more people who can assist with this, the better.
Register Items from individuals who have brought equipment to sell at the swap. Assist with tagging items and data entry.
Log out individual items on the last day.
Record sale, process credit cards, cut tags
Assist customers with ski selection and keep area organized.
Assist customers with snowboard selection and keep area organized.
Assist customers with boot selection and keep area organized.
Assist customers with clothing selection and keep area organized.
Assist customers with ski and boot selection and keep area organized.
Monitor all exits, check receipts and ensure that no one removes anything without paying.
Chief of Race
Overall responsibility for race, coordinates with the mountain
Cheif of Course
Overall responsibility for course, including course setting (done by a coach), maintenance, collection of gates after race, must assure safety of racers and spectators. With Course maintenance workers assures that turning pole is dyed, gates are numbered and that proper fencing is put up at finish area and along course
Assures valid start
In start shack, sends racers, in constant communication with finish, checks start wand and communication before the race
Lines up racers for Starter; assures smooth flow of racers; for races on Odyssey must keep a corridor open for public to have access to Olympian
Assures valid finish
Recruits, organizes gate judges, distributes gate judge cards, collects them after each run and brings them to the finish
Monitors specific gates to ensure athlete successfully completes each turn. Notes faults on gate judge card
Several people to maintain course, replace gates, reports to Chief of Course to assist with all course-related tasks
Registration / Tickets
Two or three people to register racers, distribute bib numbers and tickets for racers from other clubs. Sell tickets to parents.
Collects bibs at finish of race
Several people to coordinate food donations (from club members) for lunch provided to race volunteers and officials, set up the lunch in the upper clubhouse
Chief of Timing
Assures system works, tests the day or week before race, runs timing during the race
Uses p.a. system to announce racers and times
Writes times on large sheet near finish
receives entries, prepares start order, gets lift tickets for racers from the mountain, brings race supplies, including materials for gatekeepers, bibs; communicates results to other clubs, NYSSRA, and USSA, as appropriate
2 each, at start and finish, with stop watches to be backup for electronic timing in case of timing issues
